In wake of the recent events of humanitarian abuse in Afghanistan, here are a few poems which capture the dread, suffering, and horrifying experiences ordinary people have to endure when war and violence disrupt the homeland. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walk Home<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Feet shuffle on the sandy soil<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underneath lies a wooden stage,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the echoes in the auditorium <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the black ceiling, it seems so real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feet shuffle on the sandy soil<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And she is sure she can hear, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A shriek in the distance<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should she even try now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would they bother gagging her?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her cries for help would act as an alarm call,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That would allow the rest to scatter into their\ncaves<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those in the forest aren\u2019t half so harsh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Futility, impuissance-they are but strange sounds<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That translate her rapid heartbeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feet shuffle faster,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But she knows she\u2019ll never reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is nowhere to reach<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fear split in her spine,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And stole her gut<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we lose before we\u2019ve even begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stationary and Stationery<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Pins and paper<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were just pins and paper,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resting on a grand floral tablecloth<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pins and paper<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were just pins and paper,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing a grand tragic genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oppression<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the key behind growth of,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chemical bombs dropped on Kurdish<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A sudden and efficient end to the innocent;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the innocence of fragile orphans<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oppression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Desperation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking into the eyes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the corrupt and the corrupted<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing yourself as their sole mouthpiece,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blocking out the shattering screams<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Desperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selfishness<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The uncontrollable desire,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of seeing yourself at a pedestal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selfishness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps it will lead<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the egocentric\u2019s demise,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or perhaps all in the world<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is not right,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And even the evil is taught<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
