Social workers tirelessly work towards helping more and more people all around the world. Irrespective of different areas of work, the primary motive of social workers is to increase the quality of people’s lives. Quality of life can be a very wide concept; it may include a sustainable lifestyle, quality employment, financial stability, wholesome nutrition, sense of self-worth, happiness, among several other elements. All these elements put together can be defined as a feeling of harmony and peace! While a political definition of \u2018peace\u2019 may only refer to nations, borders, and wars; a more holistic definition has a wider scope. \u201cPeace means dignity, well-being for all, not just absence of war\u201d<\/em> – United Nations Officials.

The United Nations (UN) acts as the international guard of peace across the world, in today\u2019s time. Different bodies of the UN take out directives to promote harmony, peace, and non-violence. One of the first torchbearers of the message of peace and non-violence is India\u2019s beloved, Mahatma Gandhi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The life of Mahatma Gandhi has been an inspiration to many people all around the world. The thoughts and preachings of Bapu<\/em> have gradually developed to become a complete stream of philosophy. Gandhian philosophy primarily focuses on values of truth, non-violence, harmony, peace, and self-control. Although Mahatma Gandhi played a significant part in the independence of India, his thoughts never reflect anger, hatred or resentment. Even while leading a freedom revolution, he did not resort to violent means. He continued to choose the path of peace and non-violence time and again. Gandhi promoted positive change and liberation of humans from all shackles – all while teaching patience and kindness.
