“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Determining that our kids were long due for a much-needed break, we organized a fun art and craft workshop with a few of our volunteers.

Our Saturdays have been designated as Volunteer Saturdays wherein we get volunteers from different backgrounds and organize fun workshops at our centres. This time we decided to do it with our lovely kids at Modi Mills. It is a day of recreation, where the kids get a respite from regular studies and indulge in loads of fun activities.

The theme for this Volunteer Workshop was, ‘DIY Paper Hand-Puppet Workshop’. We started with a quick General Knowledge session on the various kinds of birds and butterflies in the area and then moved to letting our imagination run free!

The kids made colourful paper butterflies. It was really amazing to see the kids go all out and showcase their creativity on paper. They managed to create something wonderful out of a few sheets of paper, a perfect confluence of artistic flair and hard work.

Workshops such as these are really educative for the children. Out on the streets, there’s not much for them to do and learn, so the workshops give them the opportunity to hone their skills and learn new things. It gives them a chance to do something useful with their time and keeps them from falling into bad company and indulging in nefarious activities.

The best part of the day was seeing the excited faces of the kids and their constant running around. Creative workshops like these instil a multitude of non-cognitive skills, building team spirit, and respect towards one another.

It was wonderful to see the kids having so much fun, it is always an amazing feeling to interact with them. Being with them makes me feel like a kid again, and it gives a deep sense of satisfaction to bring a smile to their faces.
