The Wishes and Blessings old age home- Mann ka Tilak- is based in Saket, New Delhi. The home has over 12 residents who have been cruelly abandoned by their near and dear ones. In their last stage of life, all they need is someone to care for them, someone to spend time with and to share moments of laughter and happiness. Kush, an intern with WB, visited the old age home. Read on for his experience!
When I learnt that I’m going to visit an old age home, a kind of negativity started to arise in my mind. I started thinking of how the elder people of our society living there would have experienced when their own sons and daughters would have dropped them there. It did appear to me that their world would have been shattered when they discovered that they have to live in a shelter home for the rest of their lives. With the above thoughts and negativity, I visited Mann Ka Tilak, an old age shelter home run by Wishes and Blessings, which was established around two years back.
On reaching the centre, I was amused and all that I had imagined didn’t seem to be true. I could actually see 11 elder people living there, quite happily and as a family. It just felt so good when I interacted with them. I can not deny the fact that they have all gone through a harsh time in past, but what was actually great was that they were over all of that.
Today, they do smile again and laugh with each other. Most of them have children, and the fact that the ones for whom they did everything, denied to help them in their hour of need. The centre is extremely positive and, without any doubt, is the best centre I’ve even been a part of. It was special to see them sit together, under the sun in the Delhi winters. I got a chance to spend my day with them and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you, Wishes and Blessings for giving me this opportunity.
