Though this year has been nothing short of trials brought on by the pandemic, we have not let it wane our spirits, which in itself is a great victory. This coincides with the very essence of Diwali, which celebrates the triumph of good over evil. With Diwali just around the corner, it is a great opportunity for each one of us to count our blessings, and to keep our festive spirit alive. Here are a few ways to celebrate Diwali this year.
Go green: With air pollution on the rise, enough damage has been done to the environment already. Stay away from firecrackers this Diwali and opt for environment friendly ways to celebrate Diwali. Lighting up the house with diyas and candles is a great way to celebrate Diwali with family. DIY decorations such as making your own diyas is also a fun way to get into the festive cheer.
Go digital: Diwali is about embracing the bonds with our loved ones, spending time with them, and creating indelible memories. Although the pandemic makes it unsafe to venture out and hold gatherings, this Diwali is all about finding new and innovative ways to celebrate. So dress up, and organize fun-filled family get-togethers over zoom. There are many ways of sprucing up an online get-together from having musical nights, online games, etc.
Support local NGOs: Adopt the spirit of giving this Diwali by supporting local non-profits. Some of the ways you can do that is through buying handmade diyas, candles, and diwali decorations made by the underprivileged. Keeping in mind the spirit of sharing and caring, make donations in cash or kind to make sure that everyone has a reason to celebrate.
You can buy our custom made diyas, which have been made by the beneficiaries we support. The money we receive is utilized to support our education and food projects.
Spread festive cheer among the old and abandoned: There are many old age homes that house old people who have been abandoned by their families. Visiting old age homes, spending time with the elderly is a great way to spread festive cheer and to make them feel like they belong, and haven’t been forgotten.
Visit our old age home Mann ka Tilak, or organize special lunches and dinners for our lovely residents to bring smiles to their faces.
Enjoy a lavish dinner with your family: Cook up an elaborate dinner for the family. Ask them for their favourite foods and look up their recipes on youtube. Invite everyone to then dig in and enjoy your Diwali dinner with scrumptious food and fun-filled dinner table conversations.
