Through the course of our in-house summer internship programme ‘Youth Lights‘, the interns get a chance to visit the Wishes and Blessings centres across Delhi/NCR. The interns get an opportunity to interact with beneficiaries from various backgrounds and of various ages.
Here is your chance to find out what Anubhuti Goyal experienced at her first visit to the Samarpan Home!
It was Day 3 of my internship at Wishes and Blessings, and I got the chance to visit a shelter home. Since I was interning for an NGO, visiting this place was a part of my job, but I never knew that my work would make me this happy.
As I entered the shelter home, I was welcomed with a pair of big curious eyes, two tiny ponytails and a warm smile as wide as one can imagine! And then came the rest of the children running, “Hi Didi, what’s up?”- This is exactly how they greeted me, I, on the other hand, was just awestruck. The fact that they were so warm and excited, made a shy person like me to open up to them in a moment.
These children stay at a shelter home and their education is being sponsored by Wishes and Blessings. There were around 20-25 children between the ages of 9 and 18 years. First, all of them introduced themselves and then there were 25 young minds eagerly waiting to tell me what they like, what they do, what they want to do, what they eat, basically… EVERYTHING. These little bundles of joy with their notorious activities make this shelter home full of laughter and warmth.
With these children, I rediscovered my love for playing instruments. Together we all played the tunes of the song ‘Zindagi yeh safar’ on the mini piano. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun- I was laughing, dancing and clicking pictures throughout.
All of a sudden, one of the kids started singing ‘Happy Birthday To You’! My senior had told them that it was my birthday the next day and all of the kids, together, were singing for me. Being away from home for the past 2 years, I have never felt this much love before in this city.
There are very few moments when you feel pure joy, no worries, just happiness… this experience was one of them!
