I have been volunteering with Wishes and Blessings for more than a year now. But because of the pandemic, everything was online. The opportunity to have an on-field volunteering experience and to interact with the enthusiastic kids at Modi Mills cannot be described in words. These kids were so full of life and interacted with us throughout.

Watching them enjoy every moment while performing various activities that we introduced to them was heart-warming. They are full of determination and eagerness to learn. More importantly, they cherish the little moments. They taught me how to be content, how to sail even when the wind is against you and how ‘Ipsa scientia potestas est’ (knowledge itself is power) still holds true. I cannot wait to have another visit and meet them again.

Having been a volunteer at Wishes and Blessings for a few months, especially during a time when COVID cases were rampant, I was longing for an opportunity for some on-field volunteering experience. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Squad for Change team, we were finally able to undertake field visits and meet with the kids at Modi Mills. Full of vitality, the kids whole-heartedly took part in all the activities we had planned for the day and their curiosity and eagerness to learn only complemented the fire in their eyes.

Although I had gone with the intent of teaching the children a thing or two, I came back having learnt a lot more. I learned how important it is to find happiness within ourselves and to be content with who we are. I also learned that through perseverance, anything is possible. This reminds me of an old quote by Albus Dumbledore, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times; if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

I joined Wishes and Blessings last year during lockdown and since then I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to work on the field.  Well I finally got this opportunity to have fun interaction with the wonderful kids at Modi Mills, Delhi. Usually, volunteers have to perform an ice breaking session but with these kids, the moment we entered the room they all were so excited that it brought a big smile on my face.

I was in wonder seeing their concentration when I was explaining the activities to them. I really loved how they were enjoying every moment and many of them were helping their friends during activities.  I find a lot of happiness doing my bit for society. The joy I get when I meet young kids and interact with them is heart-warming.  Volunteering does not necessarily require time; it just requires the heart. I’m looking forward to meeting them again, very soon.

I have been volunteering with Wishes and Blessings for more than a year now and have been yearning for an opportunity for some on- field volunteering experience since everything was online because of the surge in COVID cases.  The opportunity showed itself, an on- field volunteering experience to interact with the amazing kids at Modi Mills filled me with sheer joy. The sight of the kids eagerly waiting for us was something to behold.

The kids participated so enthusiastically and big heartedly in all the activities we planned for them and their eagerness and excitement to learn more amazed me. The motive was to impart some knowledge to these great kids but in fact they taught me resilience and a brighter outlook towards life because after all, nothing can shake a smiling heart. I am looking forward to meeting them again soon.
