Group of Happy Children on International Happiness Day

International Happiness Day 2022

The International Happiness Day is an annual observance commemorated on March 20 worldwide. It highlights the significance of happiness as a fundamental human goal and an aspiration for people globally.

This year’s theme for International Day of Happiness, “Build Back Happier,” is about the worldwide recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

HAPPINESS

Happiness, a state of positive emotions, is characterized by feelings of joy, contentment, satisfaction, and fulfilment. It means different things to different people, depending upon overall personal feelings in life. Happiness is observed as critical to development, eradicating poverty, decreasing inequality, conserving the environment, encouraging inclusivity, and achieving long-term economic growth.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS

On account of the International Day of Happiness, let us encourage one another to build back a better world by being more compassionate and kind, sharing happiness and positivity with others and promoting world peace. At this juncture, we must also remember to help the ones in need and bring happiness to their lives.

For the underprivileged, happiness is a distant dream, it is a luxury they cannot afford. Millions of people in poverty fight a continuous battle to sustain themselves, and their happiness is a cause that can be worked towards. Here are a few ways through which we can spread smiles amongst the destitute:

Feed the needy: The lesser privileged struggle to make ends meet and provide food for themselves and their families with even a single meal a day. According to the Global Hunger Index, with a score of 27.5, India’s level of hunger is serious. It constitutes one of the largest undernourished populations in the world. Wholesome meals not only provide one with the nutrients that the body needs but also gives one a feeling of contentment and joy, even more so when we share with others. Today, let us share our meal of happiness with the needy and notice the happiness that unfurls within and on their faces.

Sponsor their Education: Literacy and knowledge open a vast window to the world. In India, education remains a distant dream for a significant population. Access to primary education is denied in many rural and semi-urban areas, especially girls. Quality education and learning skills empower an individual and increase well-paid employment opportunities. It allows one to become independent, which in turn boosts confidence and gives one a sense of satisfaction, making them happier.

Delivering Happiness: We all want things in life that give us joy and happiness. The unprivileged have not only unfulfilled needs but also wants. Things like celebrating Birthdays, receiving gifts, celebrating special occasions that are a yearly tradition for many just remain an unfulfilled wish of the underprivileged. Wishes and Blessings, an NGO based in Delhi, works towards happiness as an overall cause. It aspires to build a world where happiness ceases to be a luxury with several projects under operation like the Birthday Manao Project, Special Treats, and Festive Celebrations.

There are many paths to happiness. But if happiness means sharing or giving back to you, donate for a cause. Through such difficult times, become a reason for someone’s smile.

Wishes and Blessings wishes a happy life to you and your loved ones. Happy Happiness to all!
