My Exciting First Time Distributing Ration

“Khushaal, what do you like to do the most?” I have come across this particular question innumerable times. My go-to answer remains – “traveling”. I love to visit new places, capture the views, and take away baskets of memories. Each place has something new to offer. I am sure a lot of people love the idea of travelling, and more if it has been arranged by your workplace! Now imagine this – what if you travel for a cause? What if your ‘mini trip’ brings about a change in the lives of the lesser blessed? What if 1 bag of ration could help spread innumerable smiles?

Visiting Madipur Village for a Ration Drive

Working at Wishes and Blessings has opened a lot of doors for me. It has helped me to grow as a person. Writing about the initiatives of my organizations is customary to my writing profession, but witnessing things being done is a whole new experience in itself. When I was asked to accompany the field team to Madipur village for a ration distribution drive under the Wishes and Blessings’ Daily Meals Programme, I was on cloud nine. I was wondering what it would even look like. I knew for a fact that ration was going to be distributed to the people in need, but the thing I was anticipating the most was to listen to the stories of the people.

Upon reaching there with my colleagues, we were welcomed with a dozen children running after our car in excitement. Honestly, it was my celebrity moment! I was excited to be a part of this good karma, as I went forward to distribute ration to the needy. I handed over few big bags of ration to underprivileged households. Each kit contains Rice, Aata, Pulses, Oil, Salt, Tea, Sugar, and Soap. These ration supplies are capable of fulfilling the nutritional requirements while sustaining a family of four members for two weeks.

The underprivileged families are supported through the support of ration kits.

I loved witnessing their sparkling eyes while they were receiving the kits. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to document everything for our campaigns. Honestly, I do not like to click pictures of these moments. When you are on the field, you are often overwhelmed by the sad reality of life. You witness people suffering, crying, and cursing each other out because of a lack of survival resources.

I am not a professional photographer; there are moments when I am just carried away in the moment… But again, documentation is vital too. How else would you be able to shed light on these sensitive issues? How would the change come without seeing glimpses of pain? I salute the core field team to witness all this on a daily basis and still manage to document self-narrating pictures and videos.

I am glad I could play a small part in bringing fundamental survival resources to the lives of people in need so that they do not go to sleep on an empty stomach…

Grateful to be a part of Team Wishes and Blessings!
