In celebration of National Education Day in India 2022, we have compiled a list of interesting facts about Education in India.
Today, there are more than 1 million schools in India.
There are more than 1 million primary schools, 2.5 million middle schools, and 3.4 million high schools in India.
The government has set an ambitious goal of enrolling every child aged 6 to 14 years old into school. In 2015, the enrollment rate stood at 72 percent, which means that nearly three quarters of children were enrolled in primary education. However, the number of students who complete secondary education stands at less than half of what it should be.
More than 90% of Indian children attend primary school.
According to UNESCO, India has one of the highest literacy rates in the world with 91 percent of its population being literate.
Only 10% of students graduate from high school.
This statistic shows how much work there is still left to do in order to improve the quality of education in India. However, despite these challenges, India continues to make progress towards achieving universal primary education.
In 2015, the government of India launched the Right To Education (RTE) Act, which aims to provide free and compulsory education to every child between the ages of 6 and 14 years old. The RTE Act has been implemented in several states across India, and it has already had a positive impact on the country’s educational system. For example, according to the World Bank, the number of children enrolled in schools increased by nearly 50 percent between 2000 and 2014.
However, there are still many challenges facing Indian students. According to UNESCO, only 10 percent of students complete secondary school, and only 5 percent of those who attend college go on to earn a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, the quality of education varies greatly among different regions of the country. For instance, while some areas have access to excellent schools, others lack basic facilities such as libraries, laboratories, and playgrounds.
