Mandela’s commitment to human rights, liberty, and social justice is inspirational for one and all. He advocated for evenhanded dignity, civil rights, and impartiality. His persistent pursuit for egalitarianism was paralleled with his position as the first democratically elected President of Independent South Africa.

Nelson was a Human Rights advocate and an international peace maker. This day of remembrance is celebrated to acknowledge and cherish the idea that each person has the strength to change the world.

Over the centuries, Nelson Mandela has become a symbol of strength to stand against oppression. In times of commotion, Mandela’s heritage teaches everyone a lesson to choose self-respect over dishonor, to raise one’s voice when injustice prevails, and most importantly, the power to forgive as opposed to hate!

So this Nelson Mandela International Day, let’s not only remember this great revolutionary leader for the day’s sake, but also try to implement his teachings in our everyday lives i.e. to live and let live people with dignity, equal opportunities as well as with a firm attitude against oppression and any other form of discrimination.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the lives we lead” – Nelson Mandela
