Squad for Change volunteer Manushree shares her volunteering experiences!
To be honest I joined an NGO just for the sake to complete my hours for HVCO course but after joining Squad for Change I felt good about the work I am doing with SFC and I may admit that I was always seeking an opportunity to work with an NGO or any foundation once in my life. I got to know about SFC from my colleague while I was searching for NGOs. I found the tasks and the approach very appealing and I waited eagerly to be a part of the team. This made me push myself to contribute in all possible ways. It was like being a part of this big family whose aim is to bring positive change and bring smiles to those sad faces.
SFC has given me a platform to express myself openly and made me feel confident. I have always been appreciated and motivated for my work. My work was acknowledged and I felt good about myself. My journey has been filled with wonderful things -from writing about mindfulness to talking about love, attending virtual meet-ups with my fellow volunteers to baking cupcakes for poor children, attending the beautiful Mandala Art Workshop to finally having a session with Dr. Geetanjali Chopra ma’am (Founder and President of Wishes and Blessings). I wrote my first blog about my love for SFC, and the day it was published I would say I was so happy that my work got recognized. I was so inspired by hearing other’s experiences and thoughts for the betterment of society that I wanted to be a part of this adventure.
Talking to Dr. Chopra has inspired me so much; she started this organization, faced many challenges as a woman yet she had that zest to work for society to bring about positive change. During the talk, I asked Ma’am that despite the failures what inspires her to fight against all odds and be this optimistic person to which she humbly replied and narrated one of her personal experience with a child who wished to be just like her and wanted to work hard for society, the reason for her optimism her motivation was that child who wanted to grow up just to be her. I could feel the goosebumps. She is a true example for many of the children out there and even for me.
I want to thank Monika ma’am (volunteer coordinator) for always guiding, motivating, and supporting me, and acknowledging my work the best way possible. She had pushed me and made me believe that I can do it, special thanks to you Ma,am!
I have grown as a person, working for SFC has helped in my individual and mental growth, given me a platform to represent myself and work for the betterment of society. Being a part of a social cause gives a whole new meaning, a purpose to your existence enlightens you and encourages you to do something for society.
