Why is it Important to Volunteer with a Non-Profit?

“What is the essence of life? To serve others and to do good.”

These golden words were spoken by Greek Philosopher Aristotle ages ago, but the relevance of these words still exist and losing yourself in the service of others is still beautiful and impactful. Volunteering is a selfless act, and it creates a direct impact on the lives of the less fortunate. Volunteers offer their time and energy and expect nothing in return, and their efforts play pivotal roles in making the world a better place.

Regular interaction with others develops a solid support system, and the social contact aspect of helping others can have profound effects on your overall psychological well-being. Volunteering not only provides you with a feel-good factor and contentment of doing something good for others but also gives you a sense of purpose. It adds new meaning and perspective to your life and adds lots of values, memories and learning. Volunteering is indeed an enriching experience of life; everyone should have this in life.

Squad For Change (SFC), the volunteering wing of a Delhi-based NGO, Wishes and Blessings is one of the best platforms that provide non-conventional volunteering opportunities to all its volunteers. The wing has volunteers coming in from all walks of life, and age brackets.  With a motto to first seek for a change within oneself, SFC conducts workshops and interactive sessions for all its volunteers. SFC is further classified into two categories; in the first category, we focus on self-introspection along with steady self-growth. In our second category, volunteers connect and the beneficiaries of Wishes and Blessings through regularly conducted sessions.

As vividly explained above volunteering has a huge impact on an individual and society at large, and also provides a plethora of opportunities for enhancing one’s skills. It is a good experience of life. Volunteering also comes up with lots of responsibilities with a pre-requisite that volunteers should be clear about their purpose of choosing to volunteer because it requires a lot of time and commitment to fully experience the entire essence of it. While choosing to volunteer, volunteers should choose an area for which they are passionate. It will give them enough reason to stay hooked to their work, and not get bored of it. Volunteering experiences is not only about getting benefits it is also about enjoying every moment. Lastly, always remember wise words by Audrey Hepburn;
