World Health Day 2023 Theme

This year, World Health Day 2023 has a specific theme. The chosen topic discusses a specific health concern and serves as the focal point for World Health Day 2023 activities. The theme for World Health Day 2023 is “Health For All”.

Interestingly, the World Health Organization will commemorate its 75th birthday and use the occasion to reflect on the advancements in public health that have enhanced people’s quality of life over the previous seven decades. It is also a chance to inspire action to address the current and upcoming health concerns. This day promotes awareness of a number of concerns, including diabetes, food safety, depression, and so forth. It serves as a reminder for us all to protect our environment and ourselves.

World Health Day 2023 Activities

This day focuses on all health-related problems on a global scale, and the WHO organises a number of programmes for this purpose each year.

The governments of all participating nations, as well as NGOs and other groups, observe it globally.

It serves as a reminder of the founding of the WHO and raises public consciousness of the principal global health problems.

Health officials from various nations take part in the festivities by pledging to support efforts to address global health problems.

Factors Affecting Health and Wellness

In the midst of a polluted planet, rising cases of cancer, asthma, and heart disease, WHO highlights the urgent measures required to preserve human and environmental health on World Health Day 2023 and support a movement to build societies that are centred on wellbeing.

According to the WHO, preventable environmental factors account for more than 13 million deaths worldwide each year. Included in this is the climate catastrophe, which poses the single greatest threat to human health. Thus, the climate crisis is also a health crisis as it increases global temperatures.  Climate and health crises are being caused by our political, societal, and economic choices.

A whopping 90% of people breathe polluted air brought on by the combustion of fossil fuels. In a warming world, mosquitoes are dispersing illnesses farther and more quickly than ever before. People are being uprooted and having their health affected by extreme weather events, soil degradation, and water scarcity. At the bottom of our deepest oceans, tallest mountains, and in our food chain, garbage and plastics can be discovered.

Organizations that create unhealthy, highly processed food and drink are responsible for a third of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, a wave of obesity, and an increase in cancer and heart disease.

The COVID-19 epidemic demonstrated the ability of science to treat illness, but it also brought to light the injustices that exist in the world. The pandemic has exposed flaws in every aspect of society and emphasized the need for societies that are dedicated to sustainable well-being and achieving equitable health for future generations as well without endangering the environment. The way the economy is currently structured results in an unequal distribution of money, wealth, and power, with too many people continuing to live in poverty and instability.

Human well-being, fairness, and ecological sustainability are the three main objectives of a well-being economy. These objectives are reflected in long-term investments, budgets for personal and societal well being, social security, and legal and financial strategies.

Legislative action, corporate change, and the encouragement and backing of people to make healthy choices are all necessary to break these cycles of harm to the health of humanity and the environment.

Role of NGOs in Health Sector Development

The government has well thought-of initiatives and programmes devised to address the health concerns of its citizens. There are also well functioning organisations that help curb the issue of the prevailing health crises.

A Delhi based NGO: Wishes and Blessings is a charity organisation which has contributed dynamically to society to ensure safe health to children and underprivileged individuals through its various schemes. In order to satiate starvation, people turn to begging, theft, and other criminal activities.

One of the various ways to address the issue of poverty which has a direct correlation to health is by giving wholesome meals to less fortunate individuals through their Daily Meals Programme. Three nutritious and wholesome meals are served to residents of the various shelter homes every day.

It is believed that good health makes it easier to work to meet the demands of the expanding world and is therefore very essential. NGOs uphold the tenet that every person has a fundamental right to the best potential state of health.

The phrase “Health for all” should be used as a governing principle to truly bring about a change in the lives of the homeless and underprivileged people particularly those residing in slums and largely secluded and inaccessible areas.
