Kavya Chugh shares her volunteering and interning experience with Wishes and Blessings!
It has now been more than half a year that I have been volunteering at Wishes and Blessings and slightly less than that of my journey interning as a writer, but throughout the time that I have been honored to be associated with them, my experience has been nothing short of a beautiful learning process. The virtues that the organization has been able to help me cultivate in this short span of time – be it that of empathy or patience – and the proficiency it has helped me build in certain skills is commendable and learning that I’ll carry with me for a lifetime.
How my volunteering and interning journey started…
Just like any other person of my age, I started my volunteer journey with the hope of getting a glowing certificate in return for my hard work. But somewhere along the way, my initial motive for joining the NGO disappeared into oblivion. Working with such a warm team and supportive fellow members, I found myself being passionately dedicated to the cause.
This was not my first time volunteering but the way Squad For Change felt like such a close-knitted family is something that I have never experienced, nor did I expect while starting off. And so, when I heard of the possibility of me writing for their blog, I was thrilled and did not hesitate at all in kickstarting the work parallelly. I have always found comfort in words and was actually looking for an internship when coincidentally, I got to know about the blog. And what could have been better than interning, writing for a cause?
I believe that one can bring about a change – big or small- through both their actions as well as their words because the pen can indeed be mightier than the sword. But being a volunteer and interning was not a cakewalk and it took me some time to learn to balance the two out. Throughout the whole process, however, my mentors were unconditionally understanding and aided me in making the best out of everything I endeavored to achieve.
This is why upon retrospection, the decision to volunteer and intern with Wishes and Blessings was one of my best decisions to date. The organization has been like a warm hug to me, and I have innumerable memories attached to it. However, this does not go to say that my learning experience has come to an end, because if anything this is just the beginning for me. I know that there is a lot more that I can contribute and a whole lot of new and exciting experiences heading my way which is something I am very much looking forward to.
