Why Educating a Girl Child is Important

National Girl Child Day Special

“When women are educated, their countries become stronger and more prosperous.” – Michelle Obama.

If we educate a man, we educate an individual. But if we educate a woman, we educate an entire generation. It is well known that the relevance of female education is a significant problem that India faces in the 21st century. Women’s education is reproving the country’s entire development. It’s similar to an effective medicine that knows how to cure a patient and recover their health. An educated woman is capable of managing both her personal and professional lives.

Educating the girl child highlights every aspect of education that aims at evolving the skill and knowledge of girls and women via general education at schools, colleges, professional education, technical and vocational educations, health education, etc. Women education encompasses both non-literary and literary education. The education of the girl child has the potential of bringing socio-economic changes. Democratic countries including India have a constitution that vows equal rights to both women and men. Primary education is a key right. When a girl is guarded through her rights, society is assured of its sustainability. Realizing the importance of education, both the government and non-government have undertaken various projects and initiatives to strengthen girl child education.

Education is a fundamental human right for everyone including women. Education is vital for everybody irrespective of gender. It empowers people teaches them what is right or wrong and helps individuals develop in every aspect. It is highly important that a girl child is educated because discrimination and inequality always stem at the root level. When a boy goes to school while his sister remains home, particularly because she is a girl, it sows a seed of bias in the boy’s head and further strengthens patriarchy. When women participate in education by attending schools and colleges at par with males, it helps promote gender equality. When women have equal rights and access to education, they are more likely to engage in business and economic activities, moreover they will become independent. Women education is vital as women are the first teacher of their children. A child receives the very first lesson of his/her life in a woman’s lap.

Female education is the need of the hour. There is a lack of consciousness amongst the female members when it comes to education. Also, there is a lack of safe transportation for girls to go to school, financial constraints in the family or simply the Conservative mentality prevailing in India. However, there are many reforms and acts that the Government has amended to patronize women’s education. Some of the major government initiatives for the promotion of girls’ education include Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao; Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan among many others. Aids are distributed by the government and NGOs, Moreover, education is almost made free for children in rural areas so that women can get proper education to create a foundation. Women’s future is not restricted between the four walls of a house. Our society needs to understand that women are no less than men. They can pursue their dreams and compete with men in all phases. We need to promote the advantages of women’s education. Major changes are made in many bills to encourage women’s education. Strict actions are taken, and crimes related to gender should be penalized to stop gender discrimination. We should also teach our children that all genders are equal and should be treated accordingly and help to promote gender neutrality. It is when a woman is educated, she will be empowered to make excellent decisions and will contribute to the economic growth of our country. Lastly, there is no greater pillar of stability than a strong, free, and educated woman.
